By the end of February, the first organically produced meat should appear at the Serbian market. It is beef from the farm of the "Global Seed" Company with the registered office in Čurug that is the place from which organically produced milk and dairy products have already been distributed to the supermarket shelves of our stores. The consumers will be able to purchase this meat in more exclusive shops of some retail chains, but also directly from the manufacture, meaning fresh, dressed, packed and delivered to their homes, which is the increasingly present practice in this manufacturing sector in the European Union countries - says Saša Vitošević, General Manager of “Global Seed” for the Newspaper “Danas”.
BELGRADE – By the end of February, the first organically produced meat should appear at the Serbian market.
He explains that breeding of beef cattle is the forerunner and a by-product in the production of organic milk, but that meat with that label could not be found on the market until now because there have been no certified processing plants.
- I got the Certificate for organically grown beef cattle back in September 2013, and during the autumn of last year we began negotiations with the company Big Bull Foods, which completed the certification of all its manufacturing facilities. We expect that the first quantities of organic beef will appear at the market in about a month - says our source, adding that with about two tons of certified meat a month will come to the stores from their farm.
Organic milk from the farm in Čurug, the only of its kind in the region, and the largest one in Europe with its thousand dairy cows, appeared at the market in February 2013 under the trade name of "Bello Organic" as the result of co-operation with “Imlek”. Every day, as our paper already wrote, the market is supplied with 16,500 litres of organic raw milk, or 495 tons per year. In addition to fresh and pasteurized milk, “Imlek” sells and organic yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, sour cream milk and cheese spread.
- The goal of our Company is not to expand in milk production. We want to involve in the production process other farmers who work in accordance with all the rules of organic production. The plan is to turn to the production of organic meat and not just beef but chicken as well and see how the market will react - says Vitošević pointing out that his farm has both domestic and certificates that are valid for the European Union countries, which is an additional guarantee for consumers that everything is produced in accordance with the principles of organic production.
Although some of our manufacturers have organically grown animals, you cannot find the meat of these animals on the market because of the lack of certified processing facilities, explains to our paper Ivana Simić, Secretary General of the National Association for Organic Production “Serbia Organica”, and confirms that the lack of certified processing facilities is the reason because of which there are no more products from this category in our stores. On the other hand, says our interlocutor, there are other manufacturers in addition to the farm in Čurug, but they have a small number of heads of cattle and are scattered around the country.
- They cannot afford to negotiate individually the co-operation with slaughterhouses that could process such meat since they need to obtain all necessary certificates. One solution would be the association of producers who live in a particular area because it would be easier for them to find the economic interest together with the processors - concludes Simić.
According to preliminary calculations, it can be expected that the price of organic beef will be higher by 30 to 50 percent compared to conventional, depending on the category of meat, which is also the practice in European countries.

From today, Serbian market has been expanded for the unique range of domestic products made from organic milk, which are presented today at the conference by company Imlek.
Owing to ecologically healthy environment, in which land has not been treated with artificial fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides for more than four years, organic milk obtained from local farm is at the very top of the ladder in quality of ingredients and their nutritional value.

Under the common name "Bello organic" as of today, on the shelves of stores across Serbia, you can find organic milk Bello then, Bello yogurt from organic milk, UHT Bello organic milk, Bello sour cream and Bello cheese made from organic milk.
Before the official presentation of new assortment of organic dairy products, media representatives were able to visit an organic farm Velvet farm in Čurug and to see the quality of soil and organically grown food due to which cows give quality milk. This farm has all necessary certificates in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Serbia and standards set by the EU. Thanks to this, she supplies company Imlek with 16.500 liters of organic milk per day.
Company Imlek on a daily basis monitor the situation on the market, listens to the needs of its loyal customers and is very proud of the fact that with this line of products will satisfy the needs of all those who are impatiently awaiting the appearance of organic dairy products.
The range of products under the name "Bello organic" is the only product line of organic milk on Serbian market, as well as in the entire region. At the same time, a new range of Imlek products is confirmation of tradition in quality that company offers more than 60 years.
Today, our farm in Curug received an official certificates which is a confirmation that the methods applied during the organic production in accordance with the Law on Organic Production of the Republic of Serbia, and with EU standards, respectively, in accordance with European standards Equivalent Organic Production and Processing Standard for Third Countries.
The certificate guarantees to the consumer that the manufacturing process of the agricultural or food product is controlled from the moment that the production unit (plot of land, holding, farm, etc.) is brought into the organic farming process to the moment when the product is sent to market.
Farms and food producers holding an organic certificate produce food of greater biological value and under strictly controlled conditions. In other words, it is food production without the use of pesticides, that is, excluding the use of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides, antibiotics, hormones and other synthetic and chemical substances.
The milk that we produce is obtained from cows that are fed exclusively with organic feed, that have enough space to live and move, that have enough light, that are let out to pasture, are not treated with synthetic hormones, where GMO is forbidden.
Our cows are happier than other, and theirs milk has a third more omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to a reduction in fats in the blood.
In cooperation with the Imlek company organic milk, produced on our farm in Čurug, is processed into a range of high-quality organic dairy products, that will be on the shelves of our stores, very soon.
The process of certification and monitoring is carried out under the supervision of the highly respected certification body TÜV SÜD, while certification and monitoring to EU standards is conducted in association with ETKO, the local authorised office.
